Psychological Services

What WE DO

At Heart in Mind, we strive to recognize the abilities of every individual, and we work to support them in their efforts.

We help our clients identify their strengths, challenges, and goals, and offer a safe space to explore them.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a process in which your family and your psychologist will work together in a warm and supportive environment to identify therapy goals for your child or adolescent, develop a treatment plan tailored to their individual needs, and work toward attaining the goals using evidenced-based strategies. Heart in Mind currently offers individual psychotherapy services for children and adolescents with a variety of mental health challenges including:

Dr. Michèle C.Psych also has experience in helping with the following presenting problems in adults:

Assessments

Heart in Mind Psychological Services currently offers the following types of assessments for school-aged children and youth (ages 6-16)*:

Psychoeducational assessments

Psychoeducational assessments look at identifying underlying issues that may be impacting a student’s school performance. They examine cognitive abilities, academic achievement, as well as social, emotional and behavioural functioning to determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses. They sometimes lead to a diagnosis of a Specific Learning Disorder.

Giftedness assessments

Giftedness assessments help to determine whether an individual is considered gifted for the purpose of school programming. The term gifted refers to someone who has an exceptional talent or a natural ability, in this case, with respect to learning and knowledge.

ADHD assessments

ADHD assessments seek to determine whether or not an individual has ADHD. Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a very common neurodevelopmental disorder. Individuals with ADHD can present with many different challenges, but most often have troubles focusing (inattention), are overly active (hyperactivity) and/or act without thinking (impulsivity).

ASD assessments

ASD assessments seek to determine whether or not an individual has Autism. Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are neurodevelopmental disorders with a wide variety of symptoms. Typically, they include difficulties with social communication and interactions (e.g., troubles understanding emotions or someone else’s perspective), as well as restricted interests and repetitive behaviours (e.g., obsession and specific knowledge about a subject, insistence on routine).
